I’ve got another great idea that I want to start working on that will inevitably stress me out and won’t have time for, but actually sounds like a lot of fun.
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how I would create the perfect computer service shop. The reason I’ve been thinking about this is the possibility of one of my friends opening one. That possibility seems to be becoming less likely, but it sparked a lot of thought.
I’ve been working in and running service departments for Apple resellers, including an Apple store, since 1996. I’ve got a ton of practical experience and a lot of good insight into making service businesses run well and profitably.
When my friend was thinking about starting up his business, I started drafting up some guidelines for the service side of his business. Turns out I had a lot to say.
So today while I was bombarded by ideas, I thought, “I should just write a book”. Hrrm. So I’m thinking that I’ll start putting things together, get things written out in blog form, and eventually collate things into a book. Publishers could get a good idea of the content from the blog, and maybe I could interest O’Reilly.
I know most of my readers here wouldn’t be terribly interested in this topic, but I know many computer shops who run service departments could benefit greatly.
If you are interested, keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks.
