Condi “are you fucking kidding me?” Rice was nominated by Bush to take Colin Powell’s place as Secretary of State.
Rice has time and again shown herself to be out of touch with what is happening in Iraq. While she has a lot of academic “nation state warfare” expertise her handling of insugent terrorist warfare has been sad. She’s been a constant yes-woman to Bush and she’s being rewarded for it.
Powell has spoken up a couple of times about the war saying things that crack Bush’s impenetrable wall of rhetoric, which continued today with the whole “We’re leading a large coalition against a determined enemy.” line. Don’t forget Poland! It was unlikely he would stick it out with Bush given his stubborn consideration of fact and its intrusive presence in his policy decisions.
I’m sad to see Powell go.
