While I think the market will hammer this one out, it’s a disturbing issue to contemplate. Walmart can choose not to carry Jon Stewart’s book. They can decide not to carry any product they choose. But pharmacies are a little different, they essentially act as an arm of the medical industry and should be held to a slightly different standard. Letting pharmacists to make moral judgments is a quick way to get put out of business.
Obviously birth control pills serve a few other purposes, one of the big ones being period regulation in some women. But that’s not really the issue here. What we’re talking about is unchecked insane fundamentalism disconnected from reality.
The irony of their stance considering their position at the ass-end of a corrupt, criminal and monopolistic pharmaceutical industry is no doubt lost on these good christians.
