Went to see the eye doctor for the first time in about 6 years today. Whee! Good news is that my prescription is more or less unchanged (same since about 16). I have a slight astigmatism, which I had completely forgotten about, which cannot be corrected with contacts (eye surgery is looking good). Bad news is that I have a small hole in my retina on my left eye. It’s not in my field of vision, so doesn’t really affect my sight, but I have to be on the look out for retinal detachment now. No idea when or how this happened. Could have been eye trauma, or just gradual degeneration. Going to check it out in a few months. If nothing has changed, I’ve probably had it for a while now and not noticed. Not really a big deal.
Considering all the fighting I did for about 2 years straight, I’m betting that it may have happened around that time.
Really thinking about the laser action now though since it can fix my astigmatism. I have become a LOT more critical of my vision since becoming a photographer, and even the slight focus issues that come from it bug me. I keep flashing back to the “Bart to the Future” episode of the simpsons though. If you haven’t seen it, it’s really funny. Basically Flanders’ has gone blind because of “that trendy laser surgery”. I don’t want Rod and Todd to turn out gay.
