Thanks for the review. Makes me want to rent one now to play with for a long weekend or something. Stupid Tempe Camera doesn't stock it for rental yet.

Wow thank you very very much! I arrived here after returning a bluetooth logitech wireless speaker I bought to stream music from my iMac to my HiFi gear. It didn't sound perfect with the mac but it sounded perfect with the iPhone. So I searched the web and I saw this thread. I bought another logitech unit after set bluetooth value to 50 via:
defaults write com.apple.BluetoothAudioAgent Apple\ Bitpool\ Min\ \(editable\) 50
and it works very well. The sound is fantastic, as with the iPhone, and it's great to have access to 30.000 songs far from the computer. Mine is now 12 meters away from reciever and I have no drops in the signal. Thank You! A real alternative to airport express to me.

I just wanted to chime in with a Thank you for everyone that posted. I went with Martin and Eldroid's suggestion of editing the PList for the Bluetooth Audio Agent. Worked like a charm.

I tried using a Jawbone Jambox on my Macbook Pro, and it sounded like I was playing an AM radio. I tried it on my iphone and it was fine. I thought I was having a failure in my bluetooth chip, but it turns out the chip was just set too low. Bad Apple ;) I tried it at 50, and it works great.

I'd advise using an Editor like Martin suggests rather than the command line. I tried it with the command line and it stopped working altogether. After opening with the plist editor i noticed that the value was set as being a String rather than an Integer. After i changed that, it worked fine again. Also, the best way to start it working is to open bluetooth control panel, click MW600 in the list, and then use the little gear icon to choose "Use as Audio Device (Stereo)". Other methods of turning it on are less reliable in my experience.

Good post—you covered the bases. Apparently things were very different in Ron Johnson's spreadsheets and on the actual sales floor.

I'm still torqued they removed the bottles of Evian. They were magical for calming down disgruntled customers.

Definitely an interesting take. I have always believed that Sales and Technical people just don't mesh, and that Apple's biggest problem managing service staff was just that they didn't know how to relate to them. I think part of the reason the first year went so well for us was because they at least tried to get some technical staff into management spots. They started off with a Tech ASM that was supposed to be the liaison between the techs and sales, but you saw how quickly that got axed. Despite his issues, our original SM did come from managing a service business, and after the initial personality hurdles, did do a better job than subsequent management. But Apple Retail is all about pushing boxes and making customers happy, no matter how unreasonable their demands are. Apparently people trained in managing clothing retailers do a better job of that.

One issue is that generally speaking, sales people will over promise absurd things to customers, and techs will generally be lazy and under promise absurd things. It's been a career focus of mine for quite some time to try and bridge that gap.

But yes, in the end, it's just easier to hand a customer a completely new product and apologize for how inconvenient it must have been to be without a working iPod for an entire day.

Good take. iPads and iPhones are so much closer to the original vision: if it breaks you get a new one and off you go.

That attitude is probably a large factor in why Apple Retail never could figure out how to integrate technical people in the store: "One day we won't need your cheesy poof eating ass here anymore."

Anita, The onscreen video and webcam video are both captured with Screenflow. It's a great app and 100% worth the money. The video of the scanner was captured with my iPhone at the same time and pulled into screenflow manually.

iPhones and iPads have no screen capture capability, because apparently apple hates people being able to record instructional videos. You'll need to jailbreak iOS to do it and I use an application called DisplayRecorder downloaded from Cydia.
