Dear Browser Coders

A couple of web browser gripes:

Anchors: Either scroll to the anchor that I’ve selected as soon as that anchor is available, or don’t mess with my scrolling! I’ll often load a page that is very heavy with comments, or is slowed down by loading content from another slow site. I’ll often just [...]

Nic - Lets start a software company

Okay Nic. Let’s do it. Lets start a software company. I have an idea for our first app.

A real GUI app for smartmontools. We’ll go from there and build an empire. What do you say?

ZFS in Leopard

I’ve heard some nasty rumors that ZFS will not be included in Leopard. Please tell me this isn’t true.

Sexy time update!:

An Apple spokesperson called us Tuesday seeking to clarify Croll’s statement. Croll was apparently supposed to indicate that ZFS would be available as a limited option, but not as the default file system.”

We are [...]

The New PC

I’ve recently been thinking about getting a new Mac. The dual 2.0Ghz G5 was definitely getting long in the tooth. I was really hoping that Apple would come up with some solutions to the slow FB-DIMM issues in the 8 core Mac Pro. Turns out they didn’t, and for most applications, the [...]

First Full Day of Work on a MacBook Pro

Yesterday I got in my Boss’ new MacBook Pro and started setting it up for testing. At work we have a lot of applications that are still rosetta only, so I’m going to spend a week or two hammering on the MacBook to see if it can handle the work we currently do, and [...]

A Short Review of the MacBook Pro

While in Seattle visiting my brother and his family, I got a chance to sit down and spend a little quality time with my dad’s MacBook Pro. Here are my impressions.

First and foremost, the good stuff.

the Core Duo is Beefy I’ve been encoding DVDs on my Dual 2.0 G5 for the last couple of weeks, [...]

Oh How I Hate Brushed Metal

Sadly, one of the main reasons I’m still holding back on getting the MacBook Pro is that the intel macs can’t use iridium. Iridium moves the whole OS over to a clean unified theme and banishes the damned brushed metal.

Iridium actually makes it seem like there’s some cohesion in OS X’s GUI design.

I’m sure [...]

Goin to Seattle

Well, it’s official, I’m going to head over to Seattle on April 8th and 9th to witness the blessing of my brother’s 3rd spawn. Seriously, he’s procreating enough for all 3 of us Mullins boys. At the rate he and Elise are going, I reckon they’ll be able to populate a small country [...]

All Antsy in the Pantsy

Recently I’ve been getting really twitchy. You see, I’m the kind of person who needs new computers every 8-12 months. Not from a purely technological standpoint, as my machines are fast enough for what I do. There’s just a feeling you get from knowing your machines are on the cutting edge that [...]

10.4.4

The Mac OS X 10.4.4 update has killed my samba connectivity at work leading to dropping of the network shares every 20 seconds or so. Geigh. I’m going to apply the combo updater to see if it fixes the issue.

There is almost no Google juice on the logged errors:

smb_iod_sendrq: TRAN_SEND returned fatal error [...]
